Uwe Henneken

Uwe Henneken renders mystical landscapes as kaleidoscopic rest stops for odd wanderers just outside kingdoms forgotten or yet to be found. Known for his lush, seductive palettes and fairy tale imagery rendered in a style that is simultaneously cartoonish and Expressionist, the artist paints flower-strewn oak forests and mountainous landscapes that serve as his Romantic backdrops that veer towards psychedelic fantasy. Henneken is driven by his passion for spiritual expression and believes that we are all on a spiritual path. Emulating the archetype of the artist as the shaman, a being that serves through crossing thresholds to other realities and coming back with a vision to share with the people, Uwe Henneken creates ethereal compositions that serve as a reminder of humanity’s need for spiritual respite.

우베 헤네켄의 작업 속 환상적인 풍경들은 이미 오래 전 사람들의 발길이 끊긴 왕국의 밖에서 방랑하는 이들을 위한 휴식처이다. 작가는 현란한 색감의 팔레트로 동화(fairy tale)의 이미지를 만화적이면서도 표현주의적으로 구현하고, 오색 꽃이 가득한 참나무 숲과 광활한 산맥 등 낭만적이고 웅장한 배경을 통해 환각의 판타지로 관객을 이끈다. 작품을 통한 영적 표현에 초점을 맞추는 작가는 우리 모두가 영적인 길을 걸어가고 있다고 믿는다. 미지의 세계를 엿보고 그 비전을 다른 사람들과 공유하는 샤먼(shaman)과 같이, 우베 헤네켄의 몽환적인 작품은 인간의 영적 휴식에 대한 필요성을 상기시키는 역할을 한다고 볼 수 있다.
